In the past few years, the electronic music developed very fast and more and more people are changing rock and pop for it.
If you ask a 10 year old child on the street who is his favourite artist, he won’t say Lars Ulrich, Brian May or Steve Harris , he will say either a pop star or a DJ.
Also, I’ve seen a lot of rock bands who are now making songs with DJs. Two good examples are Linkin Park (“A Light That Never Comes” feat. Steve Aoki) or Papa Roach (“Last Resort” feat. Kayzo).

Is this the new generation of rock? Is this what we have to da to “make rock and metal great again”? Or should we just keep the original and specific sounds?
I’ve talked with Gojira, part of the Gojira&PlanetH, a well-known DJ band fron Romania and Golstox, a young DJ for the future, bass player for the melodic death metal band Valak and former member of the local metal band Finnrobinsons.
RM: Why do you think that so many people are listening to electro music these days?
Gojira: Well, the attention shifted a little… The new rockstars are the dj’s now, I guess! I like some electronic acts because they remind me of that ruffness from so common to rock music… So, I really don’t know how to answer!
Golstox: I think it’s more of a hybrid type of electronic music that people tend to listen to today, and I think the reason behind that is the fact that the sound is really fresh and easy to remember and dance to, and that’s what most of the people want. They wanna have fun.
RM: What is your opinion on rock music after 2000? Is it something new in it?
Gojira: I have a problem with that actually… But it’s so personal… The only metal band that I can still listen is Meshsuggah. And it seems that there are no new comers that cand fill that void of huge, iconic, stadium rock bands… It is a little sad.
Golstox: For me music is always evolving and various new sounds always tend to find their way into rock music in general. My opinion about the whole newer rock scene is a good one, because everybody gets to find their sound.
So what can we do? In my opinion, the bands should try to make more versions of songs, one classic rock/metal and another one with electro music in it, like Papa Roach, but we’ll see in few years what will happen.
