There were many amazing voices at The Voice of Romania, but some were better than others, that’s for sure.

Diana Codrea is one of them and we can see that after two incredible performances. Unfortunately, she did not qualify for the next part of the competition, but this won’t from moving forward with her career.

We have talked to her last week about her future, her experience at The Voice of Romania and many more.

Where does your passion for music come from?

The passion for music comes 100% from the family. My grandfather was a singer during his youth and I think I got the talent from him. My mother used to teach me and sing songs to me ever since the first months of my life. The most beautiful childhood memories are pigmented by various moments during which I sang with the dear ones.

Why did you decide to have a career in music?

Honestly, I wished I was a vet for a long part of my life and the decisive moment for music and the transition from hobby to future career was 6 years ago, when I read a book about Michael Jackson. I was so inspired and marked by his story and music that I got the courage to also follow my dream and I didn’t look back.

Which was the most beautiful moment on The Voice of Romania and why?

Hmm, definitely the moment when I sang the ending of the “Ziua Vrăjitoarelor” chorus, I threw myself on my knees and the public stood up. At that point I wasn’t singing turn a chair, to impress, I was singing because it was all that I was. I was singing as if it would’ve been the last time I sang and every cell in my body wanted to sing and live every second at the most intense level it was possible. The reaction of the public amazed me. I’ve never lived something like that before…

Which other song do you wish you would’ve interpreted on The Voice of Romania if you were to choose?

Fighter-Christina Aguilera

With Christina’s songs I started exploring my voice and through this song I realised I could play rock too. It somehow combined very well everything I am as an aspiring musician with everything I am as a person, so it would’ve let me unleash myself on the stage in the same way the blinds did.

Do you have any regrets when it comes to your career?

None. My career has just started and I don’t believe in having regrets. I don’t see the point of the “what if” kind of imagination exercises. Maybe I would’ve been on a whole other level if I started singing earlier, if I played 2 instruments etc. But as many days I have left, I will certainly dedicate to music. I am sure that my path would’ve been different now if I were to do things in a different way and I don’t think it would’ve actually been a better one.

What are your personal and professional plans for 2020? What about for the next 5-10 years?

This year is very full for me and I’m trying not to neglect my dear ones. That’s mostly it on the personal plan. Professionally, on the other hand, this year I should move to London and begin my studies of Music Performing. I started working more on my own songs and I hope that by the end of the year I will have them organised in a first album, which would be the most important objective. What’s left, I formed a band in Cluj and there are as many upcoming concerts as possible, at which we’ll be gladly waiting for you to come.

In the next 5 and 10 years, I still see myself in an English-speaking country and I’m optimistic regarding the future. If I keep on going the same way and adding a little more work, I’m sure that I will create by then something beautiful and people will be able to relate and come to listen and see me live. I hope it will be the year, the album and the tour. I am going to give my everything until then but things depend on the way and how many people will vibe with what I have to offer.

A stage, a few songs and a few people to understand them. It’s all I need. The rest are details.

What is your advice for the ones who want to pick up on music?

To not give up. Ever. No matter what the others say, no matter how hard it seems (or easy, depending on the case), to persevere and to win the freedom to express themselves through music if that’s what makes their hearts dance. Even if it’s a hobby, an aspiration or a career, if they feel like that’s their call, they should give everything they have.

What qualities should a person have to win The Voice of Romania?

Fortunately, or unfortunately, there is no unique and available recipe for that. I think, on the other hand, that versatility is the greatest asset. Vocally and also as an aspect of the personality. The capacity to adapt and creativity are also very important. However it may be, each contestant has their unique baggage and is judged, in the end, by some personal tastes, so I don’t think that winning the contest should be someone’s target, but the unique experienced offered by the show. Play it by your own rules and have fun!

What is your message for your supporters and the ones who will read this interview?

For a while already, my family is supporting me 100% and that makes me unbelievably happy. After The Voice of Romania, I was very surprised to see that more and more people have taken their time to write to me. It’s feedback that I honestly didn’t expect. I want to thank them very, very much for bringing me smiles, giving me faith in myself and in my path and for choosing to keep on standing there. Their words were like a guardian angel during tough times. They made me not give up. I think that at the end of the day, it’s all this is about… what you startle in people and their reactions were proof that I managed to awaken something beautiful, even for just a few seconds.
