It’s a fact that the post-rock music is growing up in Romanian Music Industry and Am Fost La Munte Si Mi-a Placut makes no exception.

Am Fost La Munte Si Mi-a Placut (Vlad Enescu – guitar and vocals; Stere Cozma Campean – drums; Mircea Becherescu – guitar; Matei Puscaru – bass) is a Romanian post-rock band from Bucharest, which released its debut album “S-a Rezolvat, Nu Se Poate” in 2017.

2019 was a huge year for the band as the second album “La Deal” was released along with their live performances from Dunk! Festival (Belgium).

Today (21st of February), they will have their first show of the new decade, which will be most likely a really successful one for them. You can check more details about their show in our pre-show review, which is available here.

We’ve tried to learn more about them and the band, so we asked them some questions.

You have a band name considered by many very interesting. How did you decide for that name? Have you had any other options?

Vlad: Hello, this is the man who came up with the name. The name decision was formed within seconds, when I wanted to make a joke. It took longer to decide to start a musical project with that name, but it was there from the beginning and there was never a question of changing it.

You were at Dunk! Festival last year. How could you describe the experience in one word?

Vlad: Wow! The Dunk! experience was way beyond any expectation.

If someone made you choose five bands to play with your band in the line-up of a festival, which bands would you choose?

Vlad: If I had the ultimate organizing power, to be able to move people around at my will, I would choose The Ocean, Cult of Luna, Mogwai, Maybeshewill and Russian Circles to come after us, at the opening, on a festival tour around the world. And by world I mean America, Europe and maybe Japan.

What do you like to do together as the band that isn’t related to music?

Vlad: Make a lot of fun of each other. It’s the basis of any friendship. I, for one, am more silent, I rarely get involved in discussions, but when it comes to making fun, I activate faster. After all, the names of the songs come from what we make fun of, hence the results of great success and well-being.

What are the sources of inspiration for albums? How long does the creation process last, from the moment you get an idea to the launch?

Vlad: Of course, the first sources of inspiration of any band are the personal influences of the members, and in this chapter we stand very well, from my point of view. We have enough areas where our music preferences intersect so we can make music together without deprivation. As for the creation process, it’s more complicated here. We usually start an album almost immediately after we record the latter, only the process of embodiment can take quite a long time. Even so, we always stick with the impression that we rushed some details. That’s what it’s like when you’re a perfectionist. And all of us in the band are.

In 2019 you released the album “La Deal”, which was included in many charts. Have you encountered difficulties in achieving it?

There are difficulties in achieving any great goal, especially when you work in the creative field and effort is a collaborative one. “La Deal” he came up with its difficulties, the main being to find a way to clearly disassociate it from the previous album.

What are you looking to convey to your listeners through your music and what thoughts would you like them to have while listening to it?

Honestly, I don’t think we’re prioritizing a message. Post-rock – and instrumental music in general – has this quality of the possibility of a multiple interpretation. Every listener can make his own contribution to what music conveys to him.

What message do you have for those who have supported you since the beginning of your career?

A great: Thank you! that comes with the hope that we will have them with us further.

Aveţi un nume de trupa considerat de mulţi foarte interesant. Cum v-aţi hotărât pentru acest nume? Aţi avut şi alte variante?

Vlad: Salut, aici omul care a venit cu numele. Hotărârea asupra numelui s-a format în câteva secunde, când am vrut să fac o poantă. A durat mai mult să hotărăsc să încep un proiect muzical cu acest nume, însă el în sine a fost acolo de la început și nu s-a pus niciodată problema să-l schimbăm.

Anul trecut aţi fost la Dunk! Festival. Cum aţi putea descrie experienta într-un singur cuvânt?

Vlad: Wow! Experiența Dunk! a fost cu mult peste orice așteptare.

Dacă cineva v-ar pune să alegeţi 5 trupe care să cante cu trupa voastră în line-up-ul unui festival, ce trupe aţi alege?

Vlad: Dacă aș avea puterea supremă organizatorică, să pot să mișc oameni de colo colo după bunul plac, atunci i-aș alege pe The Ocean, Cult of Luna, Mogwai, Maybeshewill și Russian Circles să vină după noi, în deschidere, într-un turneu de festivaluri prin lume. Și prin lume mă refer la America, Europa și poate Japonia.

Ce vă place să faceti împreună ca trupă care nu este legat de muzică?

Vlad: Mult mișto unul de altul. E baza oricărei prietenii. Eu unul sunt mai silențios, mă implic mai rar în discuții, dar când vine vorba de miștouri mă activez mai repede. Până la urmă tot din miștouri vin și numele pieselor, de unde rezultă mult succes și bunăstare.

Care sunt sursele de inspiraţie pentru albume? Cam cât durează procesul de creaţie din momentul în care vă vine o idee până la lansare?

Vlad: Desigur, primele surse de inspirație ale oricărei trupe sunt influențele personale ale membrilor, iar la capitolul ăsta stăm foarte bine, din punctul meu de vedere. Avem suficiente zone unde preferințele noastre în materie de muzică se intersectează încât să putem face împreună muzică fără lipsuri. Cât despre procesul de creație, aici e mai complicat. De regulă ne apucăm de un album aproape imediat după ce îl înregistrăm pe cel din urmă, doar că procesul de concretizare poate dura destul de mult. Chiar și așa, mereu rămânem cu impresia că ne-am grăbit cu unele detalii. Așa e când ești perfecționist. Și toți din trupă suntem.

In 2019 aţi lansat albumul “La Deal”, care a fost inclus în multe topuri. Aţi întâmpinat dificultalăţi în realizarea acestuia?

Există dificultăți în realizarea oricărui obiectiv măreț, mai ales când lucrezi în domeniul creativ și efortul este unul de colaborare. La Deal a venit cu dificultățile lui, principala fiind de a găsi o metodă pentru a-l dezasocia clar față de albumul precedent.

Ce căutaţi să transmiteţi ascultătorilor prin muzica voastră şi cu ce gânduri aţi vrea ca ei să vă asculte muzica?

Sincer, nu cred că prioritizăm vreun mesaj. Post-rockul – și muzica instrumentală în general – are calitatea asta a posibilității unei multiple interpretări. Fiecare ascultător își poate aduce propriul aport asupra lucrurilor pe care i le transmite muzica.

Ce mesaj aveţi pentru cei care v-au susţinut de la inceputul carierei?

Un mare: Mulțumim! care vine cu speranța că-i vom avea alături de noi în continuare.
