On 24th of April, Of Ash and Wind released “FireLight”, their first ever single.

I listened to it one week ago and I was surprised by the low number of views considering the quality of the song. We’ve tried to find out more about this promising project from Niki Murray in a short exclusive intervew.
Who had the idea of this project?
That would be me, Niki Murray. I thought about starting a solo project years ago when I was still with my other band, and was working outside while ruminating on the idea. While pondering possibilities of a name, the wind picked up, and suddenly the words came to me: Of Ash and Wind.
What inspired you to create “FireLight”?
Well, I’ve always been fascinated by mysteries and magic, and spent a few years travelling for work, and living in campgrounds. There were many nights we would wander through the trees on a moonlit night, or play music by the fire with some good whiskey. Firelight was actually the last song I needed to write to create a full album, which was my goal last year, to write the bones of a full album. I was working a festival in Colorado, on break, hanging out with musicians and the words just flowed.
If you had to choose a band to cover your song, which one would you choose and why?
I am very much inspired by metal artists, especially folk, pagan, and black metal. I have loved Eluveitie for a long time, and would be delighted to see what they would do with this, as their incredible talent and style would create such a masterpiece.
How hard was to record it during the lockdown?
It was actually quite simple, as we are still allowed to drive places in my country, and the studio I am working in is not far. We are currently a newly established independent label called Marcyn Records (created by Robert Mayo), and the studio is open to us to use any time, so it wasn’t hard.
Would you like to perform this song live when it is possible? If yes, where and when?
Oh yes, I would love to start performing at local pubs and restaurants here in my country, and eventually even mysic festivals and other countries too!! We have a show offer for later this year, and are very excited to begin playing out.
Are you planning to release more songs this year?
Absolutely. We are currently working on a very famous metal cover, planning to record the vocals for it in a few days and then send it to be mixed and mastered. This cover is a secret TBA on the day of release-we want it to be a surprise. 🙂
After that, I will begin recording the next original song for the EP-our goal is to have a 4-5 song EP within one years time.
Do you have any message for the people who are going to read this article?
Yes. Please don’t ever give up on your art. Or what makes you happy. If someone tells you that your art is not worthy and you’re wasting your time, please do not listen to them because this happened to me in the past, but I kept following my passion and now I am starting to see the results. Don’t EVER lose that fire.
Stay safe, be well, and many blessings to you.
And dont forget to check out Of Ash and Wind on Facebook/Instagram!! Do tell us where you heard of us, we love to connect with our fans. 🙂
