Even though 2020 is a horrible year for the music industry from all around the world, good things are still going on in India.

On 11th of June, Lotus have released their first ever EP called “EMERGENCE“. We were really impressed by their style and songs, so we asked them a few questions about the release.

When and how did the project start?

Siddharth and I (Robert) have been friends for years and have been constantly making music together. Although it’s only over the past year that we have been consciously putting out music for someone other than the two of us to listen and enjoy. Well, better late than never haha.

Where does the band’s name come from?

We wanted to keep the name simple and memorable. We imagine our music to be intricate layers that are held together and presented in a simple way. The name Lotus resonated with us at all of those levels, helping us be in touch with everything we love and are inspired by – nature, visual symmetry, minimalism.

You have recently released “EMERGENCE”. What inspired it?

We had written a whole bunch of music over the years, a lot of it inspired by the heavy and technical genres of music. As time passed by, the songwriting became more simplified and yet had a lot of depth to it. We realised it was just us gaining a certain awareness and acknowledging what we wanted out of our music – simplicity and depth.

Are you working on other songs at the moment?

Yes, we are currently in the process of putting together an album, which holds inside it a big and unexpected surprise for those aware of the band and who have heard the music, but more on that later!

What plans do you have for the rest of 2020? But for 2021?

As COVID-19 has come and shaken up the world, we are taking it nice and easy. Our primary objective is to wrap up the album production and everything involved in its release, which should be expected in the last quarter of 2020. One step at a time…

Are there any plans for a world tour after the pandemic is over?

It will be a long while before bands shall able to resume their touring schedules at full capacity. But yes, the hope is to tour with the music we make and release to the world. If budgets allow a full fledged tour, why not?!

What message do you have for your fans? But for the ones who are going to read this interview?

Those of you reading this interview, thank you for taking out the time. We hope you get to enjoy too our work, and we hope to see you on tour someday. Love from India πŸ™‚
