When you think about Germany, you think about Scorpions, Rammstein or Guano Apes, but Germany is also the perfect place to be if you want to start a band.

All Nine Yards are a perfect example, considering the fact that they can be one of Germany’s biggest bands in just a few years. In 2019, they have released their debut EP (“Silver”) and they are now preparing to realease their debut album called “Blue”.

As we think that the album will be a huge success and can be a key moment in the band’s career, we have asked E.D. (vocals) and Marc (guitar) a few questions.

How does it feel for a band to be in lockdown?

E.D.: I’d say it’s both sort of relaxing and frustrating at the same time;
relaxing to that extent that we have all the time of the world to focus
on the exceptionally musical side of our work and are not getting
rushed. We can practice and write new stuff in real depth and take our
time with that, so that’s good. On the other hand it’s frustrating to
not have any gigs ahead, of course… We all definitely miss playing
live and really live the energy. You’re given all this time to practice
and build up on something but have no sport where to leave all this
energy – it’s a strange feeling really.

Marc: I’d second that… and just add, to put it simply, it actually
does suck. 😉

Have you written any songs during the lockdown?

E.D.: Creativity doesn’t sleep… Most of all in times when there’s
generally nothing better to do than play music all day long.

Marc: I think it´s more a case of having compiled loads of ideas. The
first of which are actually coming together now.

You are going to release your debut album this August. How does it feel?

E.D: There seriously is no word that could describe this kind of feeling
properly… It’s really indescribably awesome.
Ever since I was a kid, I was enough of a dreamer to dare to dream big
and went on this crazy journey to a life founded and built upon music.
As a kid, you obviously can’t really go for a “sex, drugs and rock’n
roll” kind of style… I mean, you don’t even know what it’s all about
yet, right? So I took it step by step ever since, grew up with it, in it
and through it. This record is just exactly where and what I want it to be, right in the middle of all different styles and genres that influenced me personally and the entire band in general, all together sort of “condensing” in this as THE first real step, so to speak… To me, personally, it’s a milestone, really. Here is no word to describe what that feels like…

Marc: Another piece of the journey. In a way it’s funny though, as a
band that is already the written past. Just I for myself and where my
head is, I am much more focussed on the next new stuff, the next record,
the next video etc. Always striving to up the game.

We know that it will be called “Blue”. What inspired the name?

E.D.:
Well, blue is the color of the spirit and mind… Just think of ‘The
Blue Rider’ and the attended notion of expressionism… Might be that
the name “BLUE” hence was chosen as an allegory to the diversity of
facets vivid within all of us, a spectrum reflected in both the lyrics
as the merely musical side present on the record…
Or you just take it for what it is and envision that we as a band
decided to name the pieces of our musical work by colors to not
overcomplicatd things. Period.

Marc: It’s mostly a concept really. Our first EP was “The Silver EP”.
This is the follow up. It’s just a break from the norm, everyone does
titles, we do colours. 😉

Which song from the upcoming album is your favourite and why?

E.D.: Very difficult question for me, personally… You’re asking me about my little baby here… I’m equally proud of each and every single one, of
course.
One song that especially stands out to me personally though is “Out of
the light”; besides that it’s a little experimental, bridging all the
different musical facets and influences of the entire album in one, it just has such a strong and atmospherical energy to me… But it’s really hard for me to foreground one particular song as such, to be honest.
It’s the spectrum and the diversity that I love about this record.

Marc: I think for me it’s The Jester.

Who or what inspired the songs from it?

E.D.: Inspiration has a motion faces, it can come from anywhere; sometimes,
it’s just a word you read or hear somewhere. Other times, it’s oneprecise topic that you’re being intrigued with and that makes you
ponder, write, rewrite and redo a thousand times until you feel you
finally nailed it. And other times again, you just wake up in the middle
of the night writing down chord sheets and lyrics in one go and it’s all
just there all straight, just out of the blue… Like I said,
inspiration can come from anywhere. It usually finds you when you just
let it.

Marc: Sometimes it is quite tedious getting the end result, until you´ve
really nailed it. The best ones I think are those that come in the
moment, just hit you and they fit.

What other plans have you got for the rest of 2020? But for 2021?

E.D.: Hopefully, we get to perform and give you all the whole nine yards live
and in color some time soon again… And you really might want to stay
tuned to what’s been going on during all this time in lockdown…

Marc: We are always trying new stuff. Keep checking our socials, there
is always something going on. We have an ongoing band diary which has just kicked off, if you want to get a glimpse of our glamerous behind
the scenes rock n roll band life!

Are there any plans for a world tour when it will be possible?

E.D.: All over it, let’s go?!

Marc: Fuck yeah, we’re in!

Which band/bands would you like to open your shows?

E.D.: Oh you know, I’d love to have Metallica opening for us, that’d be kind of something.

Marc: I’d also take GnR but I’d be fine with Stone Sour too!

Do you have any message for your fans?

E.D.:
To all you Niners out there:
Thank you all so much for the ongoing love and support, YOU get this machine rolling!
The only way to thank you properly is music – so stay tuned! No Lockdown
could ever keep us from doing what we do!

Marc: Totally, I have nothing but love and respect for people coming to
our shows, or any live shows, supporting bands and the whole culture around it… you guys rock!

Do you have any message for the people who are going to read this interview?

E.D.: Well, in case you haven’t yet: if you ready to get the whole nine
yards, check our music out and be a part of family!

Marc: Welcome one and welcome all! And thanks to you guys for doing this!
