Metal band Perséide came together in 2001, a project founded by four teenagers in Lyon. Since then, they have released two EPs and several singles, as well as their debut album, “The Only Thing”, which was released on May 29th.

The album begins with an energetic guitar solo and maintains the same explosive energy from start to finish, keeping the listener hooked with a consistent performance from song to song.

Perseide uses a variety of instruments and sound effects throughout the album to make their songs sound richer–for example, in The Getaway, a mix between heavy guitar riffs and airy synths creates an interesting contrast that provides a different melody and adds variety.

The band’s cleans, next to the resonant instrumentals, is another strong suit that Perseide has clearly been perfecting over the years; the vocals sound powerful and unshaken, but also a bit raspy at times. The screaming is, likewise, raw and passionate, particularly the fry in Siren in the Distance.

The last song on the album–Don’t Let Me Go–ends the record perfectly with a passionate and well-developed sound.

With “The Only Thing”, Perseide has managed to show off what they have learned in the past two decades and proven that they are masters at their craft.
