The quarantine was a really hard period for bands and artist. We talked to some bands from all over the world to see the real effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic in music.

Today we talk to The Ocean Beneath, an 80’s inspired mixture of powerful analogue synthesis, melodic sweeping vocals and huge grooving percussion from UK.

How can you describe the changes generated by the pandemic in the band’s activity?

Thankfully the pandemic has not had too much of an impact on us making music. All our music is made from home these days and usually studio time is just reserved for vocal sessions. We’ve even managed to release a collaboration single with Fran Minney who again worked from home on her vocals this time then just sent them over for me to go in and mix. The track is called ‘Skin’ and there’s a video over on YouTube, go check it out.

What daily activity did you miss the most during quarantine?

Not a daily thing but definitely missed going to the pubs the most. That’s where we see our friends and socialise here in the UK. Another thing I missed was convenience & spur of the moment decisions. Just going for a pint of milk became a bit of a planned trip, I think that was the worst bit.

Were there any pluses for this period without concerts?

Not for personally but I know some people who have done well out of the business side of things.

How does it feel to return to some normalcy?

I’m not sure we’re quite there yet, we’re in a tier 2 area here in the UK which basically means on the brink of our hospitality sectors closing again.

What plans have you got for the rest of 2020?

So 2020 is pretty much done with now but we do have one more track we will hopefully be putting out before the year end. After that it’s more collaborations and the full length album.

Do you have any message for the bands or artists who are still in lockdown/quarantine?

Keep working, if that’s producing beats, practicing your guitar skills or drawing pictures, just keep doing something to occupy you and ease you mind.

What message do you have for the people who are going to read this interview?

Hope you’ve enjoyed reading this little interview and fingers crossed you go follow @TheOceanBeneath on Twitter or come say hi over on Facebook.
