Well, after barely a month since their debut single, Ghent-based sludge metal project La Nausée returns with an EP that seeks to develop their ideas and style.

Within minutes of listening to the new songs, i noticed that same recognisable , brutal vocals that made the original single so unique. Coupled with the same style booming drums and some violent guitar riffs, its more of the same formula for the fans of their previous single, this time only with some more bass.

This time however their message is made much clearer and as you’ll see the more you listen, the more prevalent are themes of rebellion against current human condition, technology and what is the true meaning of freedom. The main theme of dead nature shifts slowly to more dark sci-fi elements (especially in “Controlled”
or “Mass drown”), which seem to suit their style perfectly. The more abstract messages in their first single seem clearer in the context that they created with this new EP and while it can be a good thing it kind of takes away the magical mysteriousness of the song.

So, in essence the band La Nausee achieves in creating the building blocks for future ideas and projects and once again leaves me wanting more , just like a great appetiser.
