The quarantine was a really hard period for bands and artist. We talked to some bands from all over the world to see the real effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic in music.

Today we talk to Paul Ames from The Telling, a band from Dublin that writes luxurious radio-ready songs for people who love classic albums, indie radio and epic concerts.

How can you describe the changes generated by the pandemic in the band’s activity?

There are so many haha. The biggest one is not playing live. After that not meeting to rehearse, exchange ideas and write new music. In some ways we’re lucky, we can have video calls to discuss new ideas and so on. Hopefully all this will be over soon and we’ll be able to get back rehearsing and playing again.

What daily activity did you miss the most during quarantine?

Just being able to go outside and meet friends and family. I also miss going to see bands
live. Before the pandemic I was out seeing two or three bands every week.

Were there any pluses for this period without concerts?

Not that I can think of haha. Maybe I have a little more time for writing but It’s hard to find some enthusiasm with everything the way it is. I have been able to learn how to use Reaper so maybe it’s not so bad.

How does it feel to hear the idea of returning to some normalcy?

Great. The sooner the better. I would say it might be a good thing for live music. People will want to see bands live, I hope so anyway haha.

What plans have you got for 2021?

It’s hard to say yet. We are still in lockdown here in Ireland. We don’t know when venues will be able to open again. As soon as they do, we will definitely be out gigging again.

Do you have any message for the bands or artists who are still in lockdown/quarantine?

Yeah I suppose hang in there. Try to use this time to practice more. Learn how to useDAW’s and record music. It’s a great way to write music and share ideas with other bandmates. I should have said earlier, we are recording a lot of music at home andsending it to each other. It’s a good way to pre produce new songs.

What message do you have for the people who are going to read this interview?

Firstly thanks so much for asking me to do this interview. For everyone reading this. Thanks for taking the time to read it. Please check us out on social media and if we’re playing near you, come and check us out. Tell us you read this interview and we’ll buy a beer haha.
Thanks a million!
