REVIEW BY MARIA ROTARU

Opium Ink is a duo from New York City. If Sarah Orloff is a singer, bass player and songwriter, Wilma Kaddissi is a drummer, lyricist, songwriter and an ex-dancer.
Due out on July 20th, 2021 their new single titled “Magnetic” will be available on all major music platforms. The track was produced by The Anix and saw mastering via Grammy-nominated engineer Mike Marsh (The Chemical Brothers, Calvin Harris, The Prodigy).
The band’s comment regarding the purpose of their work says that “Magnetic is set to mesmerize listeners as it dives into the push and pull of a relationship that wasn’t meant to be.”
As it is for me, my whole body shivered since the first note that pouched the eardrum . There is a magnetic force that corrupts you from the very begging and lasts long after their story is told. I friendly warn you, after one listening, you will feel nothing but hunger for the second and third etc etc. I am sorry, but “For sure we can’t deny”.
“So down”, “You see trough me, I see trough you”. Here I sense the intensity of a relationship as it can be in the firsts stages when you feel like the whole world is the other one and your self can never be whole without this she besides you. I sense the desire for this relationship to work out and to bloom. But, one the other side, what is left of that person if you see trough it? Everything your eye can catch, but not him/her, right? Well, with these in mind, I say that both of the partners are thrilled & excited & shivering (as the melody and instruments make me feel) for this sensation, but both of them misunderstood the emptiness of it for a sense of clarity and reception of a the other’s false whole. As well, first is mentioned the ‘you’ person which makes me believe that our telling voice (which may be our songwriters) is the one more grounded and experienced. The feminine power of intuition and her independence (I say feminine because of the band members).
I love her strength for sensing when something is wrong, after all, the ups and downs are a red flag “too high, goes down”, or simply “not meant to be” and breaking free AND making art about it “I will be the one who got away”. And all these happens despite the humanly desire of remaining in a known place “We never wanted to turn away”. I just love this feminine power of wanting more, wanting better, as well as her electric courage for not limiting herself to comfort and safety. Frankly, her boldness is the actual invulnerability.
She wanted more. She wanted better. So she became it through this track that inherited all her and her story’s characteristics just mentioned above.
I loved how magnetic this song made me feel. & because you need to have it in your playlist and to pray for it when shuffle, I am going to link down the places where you can find this brilliant band.
