REVIEW BY MARIA ROTARU
Sea Section is a Romanian rock band from Piatra Neamț that debuted in October 2018 at Sofar Sounds Iași with Armand Popa (vocals & guitar) and Andrei Afloarei (guitar & backing vocals). During 2019, two more members joined, Adi Zănoagă (bass) and George Mircescu (drums), with whom the process of creating their first record entitled Vertical Issues began and then they launched it on February on Radio Guerrilla. With these said, their journey continued and now we can discuss their release from 14th of July 2021.

First of all, after the first listening to the four tracks, I remained with the thought of a neoromantic creation (perhaps this can be extended far enough until it becomes a characteristic of the band) based on romantic lyrics that exteriorize an utterly chimerical interior which comes in waves through the rock music & pace.
If the first track, Mii de culori (Thousands of colors), introduces us into the sealike empire which can be guessed by the name of the band and the cover of the EP, the second one talks about a totalitarian selfless love. Doar noi (Just us) tells the story of an us, two souls that found each other and complete a perfect union releasing feelings of safety, trust, mutual understanding, an idyllic perfection.
The next song is called Departe (Far away) and it makes me feel suffocation, pain, aguish, heartbreak, abandon, fear, anxiety, loneliness. All in all, it is a great song for any moment when you feel low. The last track is called De voi (by you) and it continues the sensation from the previous song, but it appears more like a blaming attitude towards (and against) the society and its standards, its limitation and manipulation. No, not all of us agree to be pulled through a Procust’s bed.
All in all, my recommendation for the band is to try to calibrate itself and extend towards unexplored ground, to experiment more.
