REVIEW BY ALINA STOICHICI

BlueVelvet is a Romanian rock band, based in Cluj-Napoca that stands out in the crowd with a charming and warm voice along with a strong electric sound.

The best description for their first EP “In Vis” would be a tumultuous mix of changing feelings wrapped in 4 songs with a powerful message. It’s about finding your place in this crowded world, understanding and learning about your own feelings and others’ too. This EP also wants to settle the band’s place among other underground musical groups and show the fans a whole new version of BlueVelvet, with electronic and trip-hop influences.

The album debuts with the eponym title “In vis” (translated as “In dream”) a totally complex song, both compositional and lyrics, that puts the light on acknowledging your feelings through your dreams and discovering more and more about yourself. The hypnotizing backing vocals and the powerful bass-line outlines the message, along with the electronic sound.

“Aproape” is really an interesting song that it’s unlike all I’ve heard before from BlueVelvet. It begins with a mysterious and strong beat that proceeds in a direct speech sprinkled with metaphors.

“Pe pamant” feels like a journey between cosmic and terrestrial, an aspirational to the absolute with the attribute of solitude, accompanied by a calm beat alongside with guitar chords.

The song that brings a harsh shade and contrasts the other songs with mean chords and aggressive tone is “Spatii goale”. It presents us the status of puppets in this society, reduced to silence and without personal views and the power of change, a marionette that exists only to fill in the blank spaces.

The EP culminates with a guitar solo that surely gets stuck in your head and leaves you wishing for more and I can say that I’m really excited to see their live performance.
