The progressive metal band White Walls released a new single and lyric video for the song “The Gift”.

The progressive metal band from Constanța, White Walls, returns to the attention of their fans with a new single and lyric video for the song “The Gift”. “The Gift” is the first White Walls branded song written with an imposed subject, especially for the humanitarian project MusInk For Humanity. The cover of the single and the video were designed by Alexandru Daș who played with the philosophy behind the Japanese art of Kintsugi. The song was mixed by George Lever at G1 Productions studio (Sleep Token, Monuments).

Founded in 2009, White Walls made their mark on the Romanian metal scene with a unique style that often intertwines elements of darkness with light, complex riffs, melancholic chords, and a balanced mix between restlessness and restraint. The band’s music has been compared to popular bands in the progressive metal scene, such as: Leprous, The Ocean, Opeth, Tool and Karnivool.

Almost 2 years after their last album “Grandeur”, the band wants to break away from the traditional long format release cycle, focusing more on smaller releases.

“The Gift” was written for a humanitarian project, MusInk For Humanity; a charity organization made up of tattoo artists, who had this thought to release a rock/metal compilation with songs written on themes adjacent to the idea of tattoos.

About the concept of the song, Şerban (bass) says: “Being the first time we explored the idea of writing a song “on order”, more precisely with a known subject, we thought to jump head first into it and see what comes out. Eugen wrote some exceptional lyrics, in our opinion the best of our career so far; the song revolves around the artist-subject relationship. The single depicts a dialogue between two characters: a dying man and an unworldly artist. The first one asks the latter to “paint” important moments of his life and identity on his skin, in order to not forget them, to “seal” what’s inside and to feel that he’s leaving something behind after he definitely closes his eyes. If you like oppressive music and Nolan’s Memento, you’ll also like The Gift.

About the composition process, Theo (drums) said: “The process was no different than before, the song being composed starting from one of Dasu’s ideas in a writing camp that we did at the beginning of the year. “The hard part” was on Eugen, being the band’s lyricist, it fell on him to write the lyrics of the song in this sense.”

Composition:

Theo Scrioșteanu – drums
Şerban-Ionuț Georgescu – bass
Eugen Brudaru – vocals
Alexandru-Eduard Dascălu (Dasu) – guitar
