Ioan Popovici is a composer and instrumentalist from Timișoara who, throughout his career, has been part of several local alternative rock projects such as Effect, Flare, and Flarehead. Earlier this year, Ioan founded a new band in which the main elements are positive vibes, overflowing energy, and personal inspiration.

“Dragon” is the latest single/video from this Timișoara project and offers a sonic journey with accents of jovial compositionality that absorbs you and puts a smile on your face, igniting a dance that can become contagious.

Drawing from personal experiences, the message of the song “Dragon” attempts to surpass the boundaries of the individual, penetrate the hazy atmospheric layers of the ego, and create a sense of well-being on a universal level. Of course, this is where the song gets its name, referring to Elon Musk’s famous spaceship designed to take people into space.

As with the two previous singles, “Voyager” and “Element Star,” “Dragon” presents a combination of alternative rock with significant doses of pop-rock, ska, and indie. It’s an airy sound with a clear direction that aims to reach as many listeners as possible.

We’re talking about a bold approach in the landscape of alternative rock in our country, essentially a change in perception of the audience, their tastes, and feelings. In essence, not every day is rainy or filled with dramatic separations.

Well, Ioan Popovici is the smile on the face of the Romanian rock scene, which remains quite frowning, even though times and the world are changing for the better.
