With 2 albums released, 13 music videos, and numerous performances at festivals and specialty clubs, the indie-rock Stema is releasing their 3rd studio album on December 28th: “Muzică de ascultare”.

The 3rd album, “Muzică de ascultare,” unites three vectors: the cinematic sounds of Ennio Morricone from Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, reimagined old folk music in a completely new manner, and a Byzantine-Oriental-psaltic vein, all against a post-psychedelic backdrop.

I’ve always felt that church music and folk music share this psychedelic component—a trance-like state meant to detach you from everyday pragmatism and introduce you to new realms of the mind and spirit.

The album’s title refers to church and old folk music, where “listening music” conveys a deeper message, a life story, or hidden parables. On the other hand, I also alluded to the act of listening required in church. About 15 years ago, when I entered one of our Orthodox churches, I imagined how the chorus of Romică Puceanu’s song “Șaraiman” would sound when sung by a choir of priests. Now, at least in the album title, I’ve managed to combine what I envisioned back then.

Tickets for the show are still available here at only 50 RON (aprox. 10 Euros).

About Stema

Over time, Stema has developed a unique style in Romania, blending Surf-electro-psychedelic-rock with traditional folk music, resulting in a fresh combination where the sounds of spaghetti western films meet the happenings and characters of Bucharest’s neighborhoods, creating a kaleidoscopic collision reminiscent of Tarantino’s films.

From Ennio Morricone to Romica Puceanu, from Dick Dale or Pink Floyd to Gabi Luncā, Radiohead, or Khruangbin, Stema takes a new path through the intricacies of neighborhood music fused with intellectual psy-rock or post-electro surf, crafting a sonic avant-garde to propel listeners into new universes – a novel style in the indie-rock scene of 2022.

The band collaborated with Caliu from Clejani on the remake of the song “Șaraiman” and with Paulina on their original composition “Avere.”

Stema consists of

Silviu Sanda – vocals and guitar, the band’s composer and lyricist
