I am not usually the type to make predictions, but I will dare to say that I think Dimitri’s Bats might become a household name very soon. Not only are their songs very hard to dislike, but they have a unique and friendly way of interacting with their audience.

On the 7th of March, Dimitri’s Bats had a concert at Control Club, which I attended. The experience was, to say the least, surprising. Even before the concert started, I knew something was bound to be different. A very large part of the things placed on the stage were covered in aluminum foil. I felt like I was in the garage of that one dude that is convinced aliens are hiding among people in their city. When they started playing, a wave of energy filled the room. The band was having an amazing time, and so were we.

For the whole duration of the concert, I couldn’t help but feel like I was in some sort of “Truman Show” scenario. That is because I felt as if I were part of that laugh track most comedy shows have playing when someone cracks a joke. The band members have incredible chemistry, not only musically but also personality-wise. Somehow, something funny always kept happening. Some things were so funny they almost felt scripted (like that time the singer went on a hysterically funny rant about his guitar battery dying out), but they were completely natural. They knew how to make the most of these random events, and the audience definitely enjoyed them.

But they were not always funny. The moment they started playing their song “Heavy” it felt like everyone in the crowd was going to start crying. I will admit that it made me teary-eyed. Didn’t last long though. They went back to being fun after that.

Looking beyond the show-specific aspects, their music is phenomenal. Almost all of their songs have a very happy, fun, and danceable vibe to them. The music is certainly a reflection of their on-stage personalities. This was one of those concerts where, even if you knew none of the songs, you would have still enjoyed it. They are just that catchy.

During the concert, they also played their latest song “How Much It Hurts” for the first time. It has been stuck in my mind ever since. It is clear that their intention is to make you groove with it, and I think the song does its job very well. To prove my earlier point about this being a great band to see live even if you know none of their songs, I will say this: although this was the first time the crowd heard the song, everybody was having an amazing time. It’s definitely something the band can be proud of.

Basically, I would say a Dimitri’s Bats concert is a great event to attend if you are ever feeling down and want to feel better. Or if you are feeling happy and just want to have a lot of fun. Just go see them when you get the chance.
