Last week, Cristina Lupu premiered the music video for her song “The Elephant” with a concert at Point in Bucharest. The song will be part of her debut album, which the artist is currently working on.

The English expression “to address the elephant in the room” is an ironic way of indicating that an obvious issue needs to be discussed but has been avoided for some time. It seems that the elephant has come to life and developed a personality in Cristina’s song, wandering around the living room while the couple in the story dances, avoiding it with indifference. Caught in a chaotic waltz around the elephant, it remains to be seen who will look up and have the courage to address things directly.

Cristina Lupu is an independent artist who writes love songs and enjoys performing them for others. In 2015, she took the stage on The Voice of Romania as part of Tudor Chirilă’s team, where she received her first singing lessons. She then pursued a series of private courses (guitar, singing, acting, music theory), and between 2020 and 2022, she was a student at the Faculty of Composition, Jazz section, at the National University of Music in Bucharest.

Currently, she is working on an album of original songs (love songs!) tentatively titled “Sweet Amnesia,” which includes a collection of stories gathered over several restless years. She has been testing these songs in intimate concerts in the gardens and tea houses of Bucharest, as well as on larger stages at festivals such as “Electric Castle,” “Waha,” “Femei pe Mătăsari,” “Street Delivery,” and “DWMT – La Conac.” Her first single, “Satellite,” released in June at Expirat, has already made its way onto radio playlists.

“Sweet Amnesia” was born a few years ago, during the evenings and sleepless nights spent with the guitar in hand after work—a mix of songs that are sometimes playful, sometimes nostalgic, sometimes ironic, nervous, or noisy—a confessional one-woman show (voice/guitar), a glimpse through the keyhole into the world of an ordinary girl.
