Guantanamo, a pop-rock band formed in November 2022 in Bucharest, brings a fresh wave to the independent music scene. Born out of fun jam sessions among four friends, the band rapidly evolved, debuting on a Bucharest stage in January 2023 and releasing their first single shortly after, on March 4, 2023. Known for their chaotic energy and humor, Guantanamo thrives on delivering dynamic and unforgettable live performances.

X Factor Stage Breakthrough
January 2025 marked a milestone for Guantanamo as they captivated both the jury and the audience at X Factor. Their electrifying performance, featuring pyrotechnics and raw energy, earned them standing ovations from the judges—Delia, Puya, Marius Moga, and Ștefan Bănică Jr.—resulting in a unanimous “Yes” and securing their place in the next round.

New Cover Release
The band is excited to announce the release of their latest cover, “Oficial Îmi Merge Bine”, a reimagined version of the classic hit by Simplu. Adding their signature rock twist, Guantanamo infuses nostalgia for the golden era of Romanian pop with a modern, energetic vibe.

Why This Cover?
“We love the style and wanted to revive the collective energy of the 2000s music era that shaped our generation,” says the band. By reinterpreting this classic in their unique style, Guantanamo celebrates a shared cultural heritage while making it relevant to today’s audience.

Band Members

  • Wael Morad (Vocals & Mischief)
  • Orlando Blaga (Guitar & Noise)
  • Șerban Ioan (Bass & Love for the Unusual)
  • Cătălin Ifrim (Drums & Drinks Supplier)

Despite diverse backgrounds, the band members found harmony in their shared passion, creating a unique synergy that fuels their creative chaos.

Guantanamo has won hearts across Bucharest’s music scene, performing at major events like the 2024 “La Rock” Festival by popular vote. They also embarked on their first tour, “Guantaliada,” in the same summer. With eight singles already released, the band is gearing up for their ninth.
