The alternative rock/metal band Marsquake has just dropped their latest single, “Medusa”.

“Medusa” dives into the heavier side of the band’s sound, blending aggressive instrumentals with heavy and stoner influences, all anchored by the expressive voice of Alexandru Vasilescu.

“This is one of Marsquake’s heavy tracks. The bass and drums hit like a hammer and anvil, keeping a wild groove going throughout. The synths add a layer of melodic elegance, while Alex’s voice takes full command of the song, bringing emotion and raw energy to every section.

“Medusa” highlights how we, as humans, often knowingly walk into danger—because emotion tends to overpower rational thought.

The statue featured on the cover, created by David Underland, brings symbolic depth to the lyrics. It’s open to interpretation: is it someone already turned to stone after looking Medusa in the eye? Or someone who covered their eyes to resist her charm and now stands stoic and immune, like a statue?”

The track was written by the band, with lyrics by Andrei-Tiberiu Gîrd.
The lyric video was created by Ramona Schimbeschi.
Recorded at Osimetric Music Prod Studio, the track was produced, mixed, and mastered by Andrei “Oase” Spătaru.

“Medusa” marks the first single with Marsquake’s new lineup:

  • Gabi Neagu – guitar
  • Ștefan Maidaniuc – drums
  • Adi Scrab – synth
  • George Bambu – bass
  • Alexandru Vasilescu – vocals

2024 marks a fresh chapter for Marsquake, with the current lineup solidified by the addition of George Bambu and Alexandru Vasilescu. George brings a passion for Romanian rock and anchors the band’s sound with energetic, groove-driven bass lines, while Alexandru, equipped with formal vocal training and a deep love for rock, adds expressive interpretation and dynamic vocal range to the group’s evolving style.

The band’s name refers to the recently confirmed phenomenon of Martian quakes—long-lasting, high-intensity seismic events, some recorded for over 90 minutes. That same intensity defines both their sound and their live shows.
