Romanian metal band E-an-na has released “Propaganda”, a powerful song with a strong social message, launched at a tense moment for the country just ahead of the first round of the presidential elections. The track is a cry of revolt against manipulation, corruption, and the polarization that defines Romania’s social and political life.

“Propaganda” is more than just an expression of frustration; it’s a response to real injustices in recent years: people dying from exhaustion at work, young people collapsing under the pressure of an indifferent system, corruption killing in hospitals and care homes, and a political class that uses fear and misinformation to preserve its power.

“We felt like our voices were being stolen, that every protest is turned into a tool for someone else. We asked ourselves if it even makes sense to speak up when everything is just a flood of images, fleeting emotions, and political mascots. This song is our answer. It’s our fury put into lyrics because we can’t stay silent anymore,” says Andrei Oltean, the band’s vocalist.

“Propaganda” is a wake-up call — about how every revolt gets claimed and distorted, how politics and social media steal the truth and feed us illusions, how people turn into animals, blinded by fear and false promises.

A world where everyone wears the same mask

The song’s music video is a visual metaphor inspired by Eugène Ionesco’s “Rhinoceros” — a tale about people gradually abandoning critical thinking in order to conform. Just like in the play, where the town’s inhabitants turn into rhinoceroses, the “Propaganda” video follows a masked politician — half-man, half-rhino — who gains more and more influence. In a simulated TikTok feed, he wins over the public with populist messages, and more and more people start wearing his mask without questioning it.

By the end, society is trapped in a grotesque spectacle, where the truth is buried under waves of fake news, fear, and illusion.

A call for clarity

“Propaganda” is a call to open our eyes. In a world where politics is indistinguishable from entertainment and elections seem like a stage for empty promises, E-an-na urges Romanians not to be manipulated, to think freely, and to look beyond the mask.
