CTRL LIVE returns with another night of genre-bending live music presented by OneDayLive and hosted by Control Club.

On Saturday, October 11, the New York trio The Wants (US) bring their fierce, hybrid sound of post-punk and electronic experimentation to Bucharest, supported by the local five-piece deathbycoconut (RO).
The Wants (US)
Formed by Madison Velding-VanDam and Jason Gates, and joined by Yasmeen Night in 2021, The Wants emerged from New York’s underground scene in 2017. Known for their sharp aesthetic and conceptual edge, the band has shared stages with Dry Cleaning, Nation of Language, Bambara, Bodega, and others.
Their self-described ethos — “No Wave / No Pop Techno Punk” — perfectly captures their sound: pulsing synths colliding with jagged guitars and relentless percussion, balancing art-school abstraction with dance-floor immediacy.
Their new album, Bastard, builds on the foundation of their acclaimed debut Container (2020), exploring ambition, alienation, and the contradictions of modern connectivity. The result is a record that feels both cerebral and visceral an experience of tension, energy, and release.
“If Lynch had been asked to soundtrack a PlayStation car-racing game.” — Gary Ryan, NME
“Sleek and synthetic, dark and danceable, poppy but paranoid.” — Bill Pearis, Brooklyn Vegan
deathbycoconut (RO)
Opening the night, deathbycoconut deliver a hypnotic blend of krautrock, electronica, post-punk, electro, and hip-hop a sound that merges post-communist Eastern European sensibilities with a lush, dystopian aesthetic.
Described as a “musical reimagining of Blue Lagoon set in a dystopian world”, their music is rhythm-driven, decadent, and full of inventive sonic twists a mix of tropical delirium and industrial decay.
