Farrokh Bulsara has seen the light for the first time on 5th of September 1946 in Stone Town, Zanzibar. At that time nobody could have ever predicted how famous he will be.

He spent most of his childhood in Mumbai (India), where he formed his first band called The Hectics at the age of 12.

At the age of 17, he moved with his family in Feltham, Middlesex, England. This was an oportunity for him to study art at Isleworth Polyrehnic and Ealing Art College.

In 1969, he moved in Liverpool and joined the local band Ibex, but the band had broken up, so he joined another band called Sour Milk Sea. Unfortunately, they had got the same destiny as Ibex in 1970.

In April 1970, with the help of Brian May and Roger Taylor, he has made a band called Smile . After a long search, John Deacon joined them as Smile’s new bassist.

After just few months, Farrokh Bulsara changed his name into the legendary Freddie Mercury and changed the name of the band into Queen

After the release of their first album, he also used his knowledge in art to draw the famous band’s logo. The logo combine specific symbols of the UK with the members’ zodiac signs: two lions for Deacon and Taylor (Leo), a crab for May (Cancer) and two fairies for him (Virgo).

And the rest is history…He wrote songs like “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Don’t Stop Me Now” or “We Are The Champions”, well-known all over the world.

However, in 1987 he was diagnosed with AIDS. 3 years later, Freddie made his last appearance on the stage at Brit Awards. In June 1991, he retired and for everybody it was clear what was about to happen…On 24 November 1991, Mercury died at the age of only 45.

Posthumously, he was awarded with Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 1992. He was also included in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001, in the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 2003 and in the UK Music Hall Of Fame in 2004.

In 2011, Adam Lambert has taken the empty place in the Queen, but there won’t be only one Queen fan who is going to forget Freddie Mercury!
