The alternative-rock is loved all over the world and, of course, it’s the same in Romania, which also hosts the alternative-indie festival Summer Well.
But today we won’t talk about Summer Well. We will about (and with) :Umbra (Doua Puncte Umbra), the rising stars of Romanian alternative rock.
Founded in January 2015, the band has 4 members: Mihai Alexandru Tacoi (vocals and guitar), Matei Puşcaru (backing vocals and bass), Cristi Constantin (drums) and Alex (sound), who sing for the “adults with children souls”.
I’ve talked with Mihai, trying to find out more about their inspiration and plans:
RM: Why have you made the band? Where does the name come from?
Mihai: We started the band because friends need to play toghether and sing for others that may feel the same as we do.
RM: Who are your rock stars idols / band idols?
Mihai: I think we are past the need to have idols. Certainly we have people/ musicians/ artist in general that we admire greatly, but the band’s voice is guided by our own personalities and paths.
RM: What is your dream as a band?
Mihai: We dream of being heard and understood by people who are the same as we are. I am sure there are more of us. As a sidenote, we dream of someday releasing a vinyl album. And a DVD with a live performance from an unconventional concert space.
RM: What song that you’ve made do you think is the best?
Mihai: That changes every week depending of our state of mind and is never the same for all of us. The two songs that are closer to my heart are “De ce” and “Ultimul om pe pământ”. We play both of them on rare ocassions, because they are songs that need a certain setting to be appreciated.
RM: What inspires you to release new songs?
Mihai: Sometimes we are inspired by the abstract concepts and that is the most challenging thing to put into words. But our last single is about that feeling you get when returning home. I think we can all relate to that.
RM: What is your opinion on the Romanian alternative community?
Mihai: I think this community has more and more quality and meaning each year that passes. If i would have to find a fault that would be that we don’t collaborate more.
RM: What plans do you have for 2019?
Mihai: It is long overdue, we plan on releasing our second studio album. Can’t wait
RM: What is your message for all your fans and people who are going to read this article?
Mihai: Always be true to what you are when others try to convince you’re not good enough. And share our music 🙂
I’ve discovered :Umbra few months ago thanks to #SupportYourLocalBands concert and I really recommend to go at their concerts if you can! Personally, I think that they are an amazing band with a bright future ahead.
