It is a pleasure to have a night picnic, but Summer Well’s Night Picnic is always a special one.

Today we talk about Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, the unsung heroes of Summer Well.  

For the third year in a row, BSO are in the line-up of Summer Well, which means that Friday will be a magical night for all who are going to attend.

Conducted by Andrei Tudor, the famous Romanian orchestra proved everybody that they can aslo sing EDM or rock, including famous pop-rock songs as Pompeii (Bastille).

What should we expect this year? We have talked with Alexandru Duțulescu, the Head of Communications.

The Bucharest Symphonic Orchestra will be performing, for the third year in a row, at the Summer Well festival. So, how did this “tradition” start?

Our first appearance on the Summer Well stage was in 2017, when we were invited to join in on this project. Back then, there were approximately 1500 people expected to come to the Night Picnic; however, 8000 people attended The BSO’s concert.
Because our performance was so well received by the public, we opened Summer Well 2018 with symphonically orchestrated alternative music, in front of 12.000 onlookers. The Orchestra performed the most well-known songs of the festival’s headlining artists. We believe that we are the only Orchestra to have broken the genre barriers, and had the courage to perform such nonconventional pieces.

If you were to describe this festival in one word, what would it be, and why?

Different, or unconventional. The BSO is one of such unconventional projects, and we aim to surprise the public; whereas the classical musician is expected to play Mozart, we also play symphonically arranged pieces of EDM and rock.

How would you describe your past experience with the festival?

Our projects are brimming with life, full of pasion, music, surprising. We’re returning to Summer Well with great pleasure, seeing how well the public received our ideas, and having a close relationship with the ones who listen to us and cheer us on is most important to us.
The same goes with our relationship with the headlining bands and artists of Summer Well. Their songs, being reorchestrated, sound completely different when played by a symphonic orchestra, “even better than the original”, in the words of the guys from Nothing But Thieves from last year.

What are your expectations of this year’s edition of the festival?

To be better, overall, to arrange our music more pleasantly, to break more stereotypes and to bring to our public’s attention The BSO’S concerts in the SalutCULTURA season, supported by Cinema Pro.

Have you prepared any surprises for those attending this year’s Night Picnic?

On the ninth of August, at the Night Picnic, we’ll keep the tradition running and rearrange in our own original style the songs of 2019’s line-up.

Do you have any message for those attending Summer Well 2019?

We’re certain that the musicians of the BSO will be able to fill the stage with positive energy and provide an unique experience for the wonderful community of Summer Well Festival.
