Founded in 2016 by Anca Lupeș and organised by RAW Music (Romanian Artists Worldwide Association), Mastering the Music Business conference is the first and the biggest international professional event organized in Romania for the music industry.

The sixth edition of MMB took place both in Hotel Caro (the conference during the day) and Club Expirat (the showcase festival) from 31st of August until 2nd of September 2021. For three days, Bucharest was the center of networking where artists and music business professionals from around the world  could come and share business and ideas.

MMB is a great networking experience with Diverse topics that cover the whole range of music business such as: Music Publishing, Songwriting Workshop, Music Marketing and Rock Your YouTube Channel. With three masterclasses held simultaneously, the conference brings to its participants the opportunity to participate to workshops, interviews, and panels that interest them.

Speakers

The speaker’s line-up began to appear little by little and so my enthusiasm.

Anamaria Hancu, Andrei Ilie, Cristi Ochiu, Catalin Muraru and Vlad Parvulescu were the head panels of “An Artist’s Dream Team”. This topic brought light to all the important questions about what makes an artist team great, not losing the emotional parts in the creating process and to bring the artist in business.

I’ve been waiting for the MEWEM panel for some time, since it’s the first mentoring program dedicated to women in the Romanian music industry. This project encourages the professional development of women in the entrepreneurial environment that is still dominated by men, aiming to solve the issue of professional inequality of genders.

The MEWEM mentors are very important women from the music industry who generously shared their knowledge and experience with the mentees, encouraging other women to step into this business dominated by men and help them to reach their dreams. I was impressed by Carina Sava and Laura Coroianu who passionately shared details about their careers and encouraged women in the audience to not give up.

Steve Vai’s interview is the one that ended the conference in such a peaceful manner, giving all the listeners a feeling of acceptance, interior peace and mindfulness. Listening to the words of one of the most famous guitarists in the world about finding the pure happiness in what you are going through inspired all the room and left most of us speechless.

Showcase festival

Many local and international artists such as Piqued Jacks (IT), Rockabella (RO) and Sana Senar (HR) performed on Expirat’s stage to create new business opportunities but also to expand their international fan base. I can say now I’m truly a fan of Cucina Sonora who opened the showcase festival.

It is the greatest opportunity not only for emerging artists to learn how to grow their fanbase but for all the people that are in love with music and want to promote and support the artists.

I can say that It was an amazing opportunity for me to receive answers to all my questions about the music industry, to have a more accurate vision and finally meet some of the most famous and experienced people in this business.
