November has arrived, and while fans were looking forward to the announcement of Robin and the Backstabbers’s two traditional concerts to mark the start of the winter season, the St. Andrew’s morning concert from Control and the Christmas concert from Expirat, it seems the band has different plans in store for us this year.

Out of nowhere, on November 6th, they released “GOLEM,” a new single with a twist. Why was it unexpected? Because I’m still waiting for “Zenovia OMG,” which they first performed at the Christmas concert in 2022. But I’ll forgive them, because “GOLEM” is a masterpiece.

It doesn’t matter to them if the world is changing; the style of Robin and the Backstabbers remains the same in any situation. Those few seconds of acoustic intro, followed by the powerful, beautiful chaos that unfolds before the lyrics, are exactly their signature. And it’s back in this release.

The lyrics, almost certainly written by the one and only Andrei Robin Proca, carry his signature depth of contemplation and distinct musicality through the repetitions. They are both healing and unsettling, reflecting the inner questions we all face about love and, more importantly, the courage to let go of toxic people and move forward. All of this unfolds in the band’s unique style, that combines good vibes with painful situations, making you laugh at things you’d usually cry about, all while dancing along.

The last quarter of the song feels like an era of peace, after everything is resolved, and you’ve finally moved on. It’s a moment to reflect on loss but also to sing about the beauty of life, with lyrics that drift away like passing thoughts. And, of course, the end captures the sound of a door closing behind you as you step inside, bringing a sense of protection, while another door, full of new opportunities, opens ahead.

The surprise is that the song also has a dreamy version, where Robin’s voice is replaced by Valeria Stoica. The instruments soften, creating the feeling of a concert in a misty forest, with fog surrounding the stage and the gentle touch of raindrops on your face. All I can say about this version is: chills down my spine. It’s purely hypnotic.

I wonder what’s next for the band and whether this is just the start of a series of releases featuring other artists with covers. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but we can only hope this success is repeated soon.

Until then, check out their tour and catch them live in the biggest cities of Romania this month!
