The Stray Lights Showcase series continues on May 5 at Control Club with a new concert spotlighting Romania’s emerging alternative scene. The event features Rotko, celebrating the release of their debut album, alongside Coridor, Apt., one of the most promising recent names in the local midwest emo wave.

Tickets are available here.

Formed in Cluj-Napoca in 2025, Rotko operates at the intersection of art-rock, electronic, and alternative. Their sound blends modular synths, drum machines, and distorted guitars into a melancholic, uncanny sonic landscape, underscored by introspective lyrics. Rather than delivering explicit messages, the band focuses on atmosphere and texture, creating immersive experiences open to personal interpretation.

Speaking about their creative process, Rotko highlights the cinematic quality of their music:
“Diffuse synth sounds create a film-like atmosphere. We use rich textures and vintage-leaning synth tones often found in what are now considered classic films. That’s probably where the cinematic feel comes from.”

The band also avoids directing listeners’ emotions:
“We don’t aim to tell people what to feel. The more direct you are, the more you risk limiting what the music could otherwise convey.”

Rotko’s lineup includes Mircea Bozac (guitar, vocals, synths), Ádám Soma Oriold (modular synths, drum machines), Feiérvári Márk (synths), Tamás Tóth-Fábián (bass), and Marc Pocola (drums).

Joining them, Coridor, Apt. brings an honest and energetic mix of midwest emo rooted in DIY and lo-fi aesthetics. The Bucharest-based band—Ștefan Tudose (vocals/guitar), Rareș Mazilescu (guitar), David Botonogu (drums), and Victor Gavrilă (bass/vocals)—crafts a musical universe where layered harmonies, controlled screams, and guitar-driven dynamics shape deeply personal songs marked by raw sensitivity.

Their debut EP, Interior, features five tracks that transform fragments of everyday life into direct, memorable musical confessions. Beneath an apparent simplicity, Coridor, Apt. channels a rare sincerity, exploring unfiltered emotion without unnecessary embellishment.

The Stray Lights Showcase aims to provide a consistent platform for emerging indie and alternative artists in Romania, fostering connections between audiences and new local sonic directions. The May 5 concert promises a vibrant evening where introspection, energy, and sonic experimentation meet in a familiar Bucharest setting.

Stray Lights functions as a support network connecting dozens of active alternative bands including Cardinal, Orkid, D.E.N.I.S, Zammorian, Second Wave, Baby Elvis, PLANT, Valerinne, Methadone Skies, Midpoint, and Air Lines offering a form of cultural resilience within a fragile music ecosystem.

Stray Lights 2.0 is a necessity. It’s about bringing together, collaborating, and supporting as many bands as possible that create relevant, non-anachronistic alternative music in Romania. It’s not an agency, not a label it’s a small group of people trying to help each other and, from time to time, put on a show.”
