The Grand Hall of ARCUB in Bucharest hosted the BeatAgora 2026 Laureates Gala on Thursday, June 4. The event, which has become a celebration of the entire community, honored the country’s most talented young guitarists and drummers, as well as the teachers, volunteers, and high school bands who have transformed this alternative music education program into one of Romania’s most extensive cultural initiatives. The gala brought together students, educators, representatives of the educational sector, journalists, booking agents, and cultural managers, providing a comprehensive overview of the impact BeatAgora has on communities across the country.

Launched in 2023 by musician Zoli Toth through the Star Education Association, with the support of founding partner BRD Groupe Société Générale, BeatAgora aims to bring music back into schools by providing young people with free access to modern instruments, rehearsal spaces, and real artistic experiences. In just three years, the program has grown steadily, becoming one of Romania’s largest alternative music education initiatives.

In 2026, BeatAgora is active in 21 cities, supports 35 bands formed within the program, and provides free access to modern musical instruments for more than 20,000 students. The growing interest in the program is also reflected in the 106 high schools that applied during the 2025 open call, a clear sign that more and more school communities want to bring music closer to their students.

One of the central moments of the gala was the award ceremony for the winners of the national competitions organized by BeatAgora this year. The second edition of the National SOLO Guitar Competition attracted 75 participants from schools and high schools across the country, while the first edition of the National Drum Competition registered 131 participants, making it an all-time record in Romania for a drum competition. Expert juries made up of leading musicians from Romania’s music industry awarded trophies, diplomas, and cash prizes, providing essential recognition for these young artists.

The winners also had the opportunity to perform a piece during the gala alongside a professional band assembled especially for the event. For many of them, it was their first experience performing on a professional stage in front of an audience made up of fellow students, teachers, partners, and representatives of the music industry. Two of the program’s successful bands also took the stage: Zennyth (Bucharest) and Flight (Călărași).

Also in 2026, BeatAgora organized 1 Minute Orchestra, a competition created in partnership with RetuRO, which challenged participants to build musical instruments from recyclable materials and transform creativity and environmental awareness into artistic expression.

“BeatAgora started from a simple idea: every child deserves the chance to hold a musical instrument in their hands. Three years later, we can see this idea taking root in more and more schools and communities. The BeatAgora Gala is not just about awards, but about the people who make this project possible: students, teachers, volunteers, and partners who believe that music can change lives,” said Zoli Toth, the program’s founder.

By the end of 2028, BeatAgora aims to be present in 50 high schools across 50 cities in Romania and to help establish 50 bands, building a national community of students, teachers, and partners who believe in the power of education through music.

About BeatAgora
