For the first time in Bucharest: City of the Sun presents the world of Under the Moon
City of the Sun, the New York band known for its evocative soundscapes and its fusion of indie rock, flamenco, folk, blues and world music influences, is coming to Bucharest for the first time, on Saturday, September 26, after 20:00, at Control Club.

Formed in 2011, the band currently consists of John Pita on guitar, Zach Para on percussion, Matt Fasano on bass and Marco Bolfelli on guitar. City of the Sun creates instrumental music that functions as a universal language: expansive compositions in which each song builds its own soundscape and tells a story without needing words. Their influences span indie rock, American folk, flamenco and blues, while the band’s sound has been described as a combination of Rodrigo y Gabriela and Explosions in the Sky.
Following their 2016 debut album To The Sun and All the Cities in Between, their self titled 2020 album and then Segunda Alma (2022), City of the Sun have won audiences around the world, touring alongside Peter Bjorn and John and Thievery Corporation.
The Bucharest concert comes after the release, this spring, of the band’s latest album, Under the Moon, produced by Phil Ek, known for his collaborations with Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty and Built to Spill. The album explores a wide range of moods and sonic landscapes, from the surf inspired sound of “Angeles” and the western atmosphere of “Bajo la Luna” to the desert rock energy of “Ciudad del Sol” and the Mediterranean influences of “Hotel Alma”.
On Under the Moon, City of the Sun expands its musical universe into new territories. “Ella” and “Dream” bring disco funk energy, while “London” transforms memory and nostalgia into a composition influenced by surf rock and new wave. The album also features a collaboration with Spanish artist Gizmo Varillas, “Vuela”, a track that blends Latin and African rhythms and pays tribute to the legacy of legendary Argentine singer songwriter Atahualpa Yupanqui.
At the heart of City of the Sun‘s music, however, is the live experience: the guitars of John Pita and Marco Bolfelli, the percussion of Zach Para and the bass of Matt Fasano come together to create a sound that is both intimate and expansive, making this a live show not to be missed.
