Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys bring their immersive sound to Cluj-Napoca
After six years of extensive touring across Europe and the United States, Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys will perform at Atelier Cafe in Cluj Napoca on October 1. The concert is organized with the support of the German Cultural Center Cluj Napoca and promises an immersive live experience from one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary art pop.
Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys is an art pop and tender noise band known for its openness to sonic transformation. The project was formed in 2015 by South African born singer songwriter and guitarist Lucy Kruger. After relocating to Berlin in 2018, Kruger developed the project into the distinctive and atmospheric band it is today.
Over the past six years, the group has built an extensive international touring history, performing across Europe and the United States at festivals including The Great Escape, SXSW, Reeperbahn, Roadburn, MENT and Maifeld Derby. In 2023, the band received the Europavox Spotlight Prize and performed at five of the platform’s showcase festivals across Europe.
The band’s live sound is shaped by the intuitive interplay between Liú Mottes on guitar, Jean Louise Parker on viola, Gidon Carmel on drums and Andreas Bonkowski on bass. Together, they create performances that move between intimacy and abandon, quiet tension and raw intensity. Their music is deeply physical and emotional, with a strong focus on atmosphere, texture and the expressive possibilities of sound.
Lucy Kruger’s voice is central to this experience. Her performances can shift effortlessly from vulnerable whispers to guttural intensity, giving the songs an unpredictable and visceral quality. The band’s deliberate and emotionally charged musicality has drawn comparisons to Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
Following the acclaimed Tapes Trilogy, Heaving and the 2024 album A Human Home, the band released their seventh studio album, Pale Bloom, in 2026. Described as a glistening and emotive record, the album continues the group’s exploration of sound, emotion and physical sensation.
Their concerts have been described as immersive and spellbinding, with a constant movement between restraint and release. BrooklynVegan has highlighted the band’s “attitude and drama”, while Clash Music described their sound as a “perfect storm” of gothic art pop, grungy rhythms and eerie violin.
